Uganda: Anek Re-Elected but Disunity Reigns

Suzan Anek was re-elected as the Uganda netball federation president on January 26 at the National Council of Sports premises in Lugogo.

However, this hasn't ended the bad spell of mistrust that has engulfed the netball federation over the last one year.

While Anek beat Rosette Kaala 35-24 in terms of votes, accusations and a potential for more fights still took centre stage. Kaala was dissatisfied with the election outcome and promised to challenge the results.

She sent a petition to NCS claiming that clubs that didn't have any activity last year also sent members to the elective assembly which to her was illegal. She claims that it is on that discrepancy that she lost the election. Jasper Aligawesa, the NCS general secretary, confirmed receipt of Kaala's petition.
