The Education department in Magarini has launched a manhunt for a teacher who ran off after impregnating a schoolgirl.Mako Kazungu is allegedly had an affair with a standard eight pupil but ran away when he found out authorities were looking for him.

"The teacher was reported to us that he had had an affair with the girl and he impregnated her. He has since disappeared but once we arrest him he will face the law," said area DEO Stephen Abere.

He said cases of early pregnancies among schoolgirls are rampant with at least 1,000 reported last year."Among them were 150 KCPE candidates. This trend is very worrying," said Abere.

The DEO said the pregnancies are a result of relationships among pupils, or with adults especially boda boda operators.Abere cautioned residents to keep of school children warning that those caught will paying hefty fines or risk jailtime.

He encouraged parents to advise their children to uphold good morals.
