Nigeria: FG to Vaccinate 50m Kids Against Polio

In its determination to eradicate polio from Nigeria, the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, NPHCDA begins the February National Immunisation Days from today till Tuesday, 5th February in all states and local government areas of the country.

It is to vaccinate 50 million Nigerian children, aged 0 - 5years with Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) against poliomyelitis within the period. According to a statement issued late Friday by Saadu Salahu, Assistant Director, PR Unit of the agency, NPHCDA will do this by working in collaboration with development partners, states and local governments and stakeholders in immunization throughout the 36 states and FCT .

Salahu said during this period, the oral polio vaccine and other routine immunization antigens would be administered to all children aged 0-5 years irrespective of their previous immunization status. Speaking on the exercise, the Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer, National Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Ado Muhammad, disclosed that adequate vaccines and other logistics have already been distributed to all the implementing states.
