Gambia: Police Officer Testifies in Assault Case

Abdoulie Jallow, a police officer attached to the Tallinding Police Station, Tuesday testified as the third prosecution witness (PW3) in the ongoing criminal trial involving the state against Lamin Sanneh at the Bundung Magistrates' Court.

The case was presided over by Magistrate Edward Singahteh. The accused person is charged with one count of assault causing actual bodily harm, contrary to the Laws of The Gambia.

The particulars of offence stated that on the 19th December, 2012 at Churchills Town in the Kanifing Municipality, the accused assaulted one Augustus Mendy, his former teacher, on his face, which caused him injury.

Testifying in court, PW3 said sometime in December last year, the complainant came to the Tallinding Police Station and told him that the accused assaulted him on his face, which caused him severe injury. He said he then took the complainant to the Faji Kunda Health Centre where the complainant was treated and given a medical certificate. The medical certificate was tendered and marked as an exhibit. The case was adjourned for hearing.
