Zambia: Platinum Stars Coach Counsels Zanaco

PLATINUM Stars coach Tendai Chikuni has urged Zambian champions, Zanaco, to prepare adequately for their 2013 Confederations of Africa Football (CAF) Champions League preliminary round first leg clash against Mbabane Swallows of Swaziland.

And Power Dynamos coach, Beston Chambeshi has said he is happy with the fitness levels of his players from Saturday's 1-1 draw with newly promoted DR Congo premiership outfit Don Bosco at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe.

Chikuni said in an interview after his side beat Zanaco 3-1 in an international friendly match played at Sunset stadium at the weekend that the bankers needed to step up their preparations in readiness of the huge challenge ahead of them on February 9.

"Zanaco are a good side but I think they still have a lot of work to do ahead of their matches against Swallows. The competition is always tough and it is not good to get eliminated in the first round and I hope Zanaco can make the most of the remaining time to seal the loopholes before the match," he said.

On the match, he said it was tough despite his side carrying a comfortable victory, saying Zanaco started the match on a good note with some neat passing but that his team managed to change the tempo of the game to score the important goals.

Zanaco took the lead through Roderick Kabwe in the 27th minute before Stars leveled the scores in the 70th minute through Joel Nhazo with Nelson Mazwisa netting a brace in the 72nd and 90th minutes.

And Chambeshi said in an interview that the Power technical staff would now work on the coordination in the team that is representing Zambia in this season's Orange CAF Confederation Cup.

He said the Fordson Kabole-coached Don Bosco gave Power a good game which was what the 2011 Zambian champions needed ahead of their Orange CAF Confederation Cup clash with Club Recreativo da Caala of Angola.

Kabole said his Lubumbashi-based team lacks international experience as demonstrated during the game against Power when they allowed the Kitwe side to level matters at the death but was optimistic that the team would be up to the task.

Power were by Press time playing FC Platinum of Zimbabwe.
