Members of Parliament (MPs) yesterday extolled the Black Stars for their sterling performance in the ongoing African Cup of Nations 2013 (AFCON) tournament in South Africa.
The Black Stars have qualified to the quarter finals of the continental showpiece after thrashing Niger 3-0, Mali 1-0, and drawing with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in their group B matches.
Hon. Isaac Asiamah, the MP for Atwima-Mponua in the Ashanti Region, amazed by the performance of the Black Stars, sent a congratulatory message to the team on the floor of the House.
According to him, the Black Stars has proven so far to be talented and gallant, saying: "Ghana's participation in the 2013 tournament marks her 19th appearances of which she has won 4 times in 1963, 1965, 1978 and 1982. It's been 31 years since we last won the tournament and our thirst for yet another victory is so overwhelming" he noted.
He added that the AFCON 2013 is witnessing an outstanding display of skills and talents from all participating countries, especially the Black Stars, whom football commentators had predicted as the favorite winner of the tournament.
Asiamah emphasized that the performance of the stars has once again uplifted the image of the Ghana in the Republic of South Africa.
"This team has a number of debutant players who have proven how talented they are and demonstrated their outstanding poise, resilient and intractability on the field of play, which I think is worth emulating to enhance the country's development", he said.
Adding their voice to the congratulatory message was the out-going Minister for Youth and Sports and the MP for Anlo, Mr. clement Kofi Humado, who described football as the passion of the nation.
He, however, said though the government is yet to prepare its 2013 budget, his outfit was able to provide the black stars with the necessary financial support they needed.
He congratulated the Black Stars and urged them to do more which he believed is achievable because of the training the national team have had.
On her part, the MP for Tano North, Ms. Freda Akosua also congratulated the national team and expressed the hope that they win their match with Cape-Verde to help them proceed to the Semi-finals.
MP for Berekum East, Dr. Kwabena Twum-Nuamah in his contribution to the statement noted that so far the Black Stars are on course to lifting the continental cup for a record fifth time. He commended the Head Coach of the team, Kwesi Appiah for a good job done.
"The coach had proven that a black man is capable of managing the national team. I am confident the Black Stars will win the trophy for the fifth time under a black coach," he stated.
On her part, the MP for Tano South, Dr. Hanna Bisiw congratulated the stars and hope they will make Ghana proud by winning the Trophy.
