Nigeria: Catholic Women Hold Regional Conference

The World Union of Catholic Women Organisation (WUCWO) yesterday conducted its 8th African Regional Conference in Abuja.

The president of the National Catholic Women Organisation (NCCWO) Mrs Felicia Onyeabo said the 8th African conference with theme: "love in action" discussed issues on women and youths empowerment as well as world peace.

She said the organisation which came into being in 1910 strives to unite women to speak with one voice and build a more compassionate society.

It makes effort to "restore the dignity of th e human person, promote human rights as stipulated in the UN charter and promote programmes geared towards uplifting and protecting women, especially the girl child.

WUCWO develops programmes and activities to protect the rights of those who suffer from the consequences of war, poverty, oppression, marginalisation, unjust tradition such as oppressive widowhood, female genital mutilation and unfair immigration laws."
