Ministry of Trade has announced that Ethiopian exports earned US$1.4 billion over the last six months. Presenting the six-month performance of the Ministry to Parliament, Kebede Chane, the Minister of Trade, said this year's earnings showed an increase of five percent compared to that of the same period last year.
Despite this, he added, the export performance during the previous last six months had only met 64.4 percent of the intended targets. Ato Kebede said the failure to reach targets had been due to poor performances in agriculture and in the mining sector which the Ministry did not monitor. The Ministry is now planning to encourage exports by monitoring agricultural productivity.
