Egypt: Interior Ministry - President Rejects Use of Violence Against Protesters

Major General Abdel Fattah Osman, the Assistant Interior Minister for Public Security said that President Mohammed Morsi rejects the use of force against demonstrators or even use of tear gas.

Osman asked, at a meeting of the Shura Council's National Security and Arab and Foreign Affairs Committee, that they are allowed to take security measures that allow security men to arrest criminal elements.

Osman stressed that there is no decline in security performance, but crime rates have increased compared to 2010.
