Egypt: Suez Canal Serves International Navigation - SCA Chief

Head of the Suez Canal Authority Mohab Memish said on Sunday 3/2/2013 reassured the international maritime community that the Suez Canal with all its expertise and capabilities is available 24-hours to provide services to the world trade.

This came during his visit to the containers platform in East Port Said to check the giant Danish container ship which was subjected to a sudden malfunction in propeller during entering the Canal on Friday.

Memish said that authorities have started unloading the Danish ship.

The three-day operation comes in cooperation with the Suez Canal Authority's rescue crew, Memish said.

He asserted that the accident did not impede navigation in the waterway and that traffic is working as usual.
