Liberia: Our Plea to the Government

column

Last Friday, we published a front page story in which we highlighted concern expressed by residents of Clara Town, which is located on the Bushrod Island, Monrovia. The residents of Clara Town lamented that water shortage hit their area as a result of an ongoing road construction work in the area.

Several pipelines, according to the Clara residents, were disconnected by workers carrying on the road project, and as a result, they no longer get pipe borne water. The Clara Town residents, who made their concern known when they spoke to The Heritage, further lamented that they trek long distances to fetch water.

Against this backdrop, we plea with authorities of the Ministry of Public Works and the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC) to re-connect the disconnected pipes so as to bring relief to them.

While we sincerely embrace the ongoing road project in Clara Town by the Government of Liberia(GOL), which is in the interest of the Clara Town residents, we, on the other hand, beg the authorities of the Public Works and LWSC to urgently restore the pipe borne water to the estimated 75,000 residents of Clara Town, as water is very important to their survival.

As it is often said: "Water is Life" so the people need the water to survive. Without water, they cannot survive as life will become more unbearable for them.

To this end, we again plead with the government through the relevant authorities to urgently restore pipe borne water to Clara Town. It is our fervent hope that the government will listen to our plea and bring relief to the people of Clara Town.
