Kenya: Sirma and Jepchirchir Emerge Best At Wareng Race

Nelphat Sirma and Sophy Jepchirchir won 12km senior men and 8km senior women races respectively during the Wareng district cross country meeting at Eldoret Polytechnic over the weekend.

Sirma won 12km race in 36.02.95 while Simon Kiplagat (37:01.70) and John Koech (37:26.04) followed in the second and third positions respectively. In an interview Sirma said he is focused to make the cut in the Kenya team to the World Cross Country Championships next month in Poland.

In the 8km senior women, Sophy won the title in 27:55.28 minutes while Sammary Jerotich came second in 29.04.27. Veronica Jepkosgei settled for third position after posting (29.31.20).

Brenda Kibet emerged winner in 6km junior women's race after posting 22:25.2. Sharon Kosgei was second in 24.33.1 while Valentine Serum finished third in 26:32.7. The 8km junior men saw Silas Keitany emerge top in 22.18.36, with Stanley Kipkirui second in 23:19.3. Timothy Yator completed the podium in 24:20.10. The event was used to select the Wareng team to the provincial championships set for Saturday at Mosoriot.
