The police in Huye district have arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly killing his neighbour in Kimuna cell, Rusatira sector.

Police said the incident occurred on Sunday, between 10pm and 11pm.

The suspect (name withheld) is being detained at Ngoma Police Station as investigations into the murder continue, Southern Region Police Spokesperson Hubert Gashagaza said.

Police identified the victim as Clementine Nibarere, 32.

Preliminary investigations indicate the victim might have been strangled, Police said.

By press time, the victim's body had been taken to the University Teaching Hospital of Butare (CHUB) for a post-mortem.

It is alleged that the two had been drinking in a nearby bar on the fateful night. They were later heard at the suspect's home seemingly quarrelling.

Eyewitnesses told the Police that the victim might have refused to sleep with the accused.
