South Africa: Hands Off Gordon and Bafana-Bafana! (SAFPU)

South African Football Players Union[SAFPU] would like to congratulate coach Gordon Igesund and Bafana Bafana for representing our country so well in the AFCON 2013. For the first time after so many years of hiring and firing of the so called world class coaches and poor results, Bafana Bafana showed improvement and the country was finally united behind the team.

The team showed character in all their games and you could see that they also have gained.

confidence and playing as a unit for the first time after so many years of poor results. Their intention was evident that they just wanted to make their country proud by winning the AFCON for the second time since 1996. Anyone who didn't see this must have been in planet Mars before these AFCON games. This was the best Bafana Bafana performance after a very long time.

Credit must also go to coach Gordon Igesund and his right hand man Serame Letswaka and the rest of the technical team for the job well done. These guys did their best to make sure that the team performs to the best of its ability hence we were all so excited and we could see Bafana Bafana going all the way to the finals.

SAFPU also welcome the decision taken by the South African Football Association by keeping Gordon Igesund as the head coach of Bafana Bafana even after they were knocked out in the quarter finals of the AFCON. We think that it is a great move to keep the coach because there will be continuity going forward to the games leading to the world cup in Brazil next year.

As the South African Football Players Union we would also like to thank the whole country for supporting Bafana Bafana and filling the stadiums to capacity. We also wish to thank them for behaving in all Bafana Bafana games as there were no reports of intimidation and hooliganism in all Bafana Bafana games, You made the country proud with the best behavior. We hope the team won't disappoint and will continue from where they left of when they start to play their World cup qualifying games starting with Ethiopia in March. Good Luck Bafana Bafana and the rest of the technical team!
