Somali security forces arrested 25 suspected al-Shabaab sympathisers in Beledweyne on Sunday (February 3rd), UN-funded Radio Bar-Kulan reported.
The 25 youths were in a vehicle traveling from Galkayo to Beledweyne, area police boss Colonel Issack Ali Abdulle said. Those found to have no links with the militants will be released, he said.
Police have received reports that al-Shabaab is planning to re-deploy its fighters from Puntland to the area around Beledweyne, he said.
The arrests came two days after Somali and Djiboutian forces clashed with al-Shabaab in Beledweyne, killing at least 12 militants.
