Uganda: Nebanda Murder - Suspects Granted Bail

Five out of the six suspects accused of causing the death of Butaleja Woman MP, Cerinah Nebanda, have registered some victory after court granted each of them a cash bail of sh10m.

Makindye court Chief Magistrate Ester Nambayo on Tuesday granted bail to Noor Abubakar, Khan Babu, Abdul Abid Rashid Butt, Ali Omar Almuzahim, and Fatuma Babu.Nambayo also asked the suspects to deposit their passports and land titles.

The sixth co-accused who is believed to be the key suspect in this case Adam Sulaiman Kalungi was however further remanded saying that he never applied for bail.

The suspects face manslaughter charges and two counts of being in possession of narcotic drugs contrary to the National Drug Policy and Authority Act.

According to the charge sheet, Kalungi along with his five co-accused on December 14, 2012 in Buziga Makindye Division in Kampala, unlawfully caused the death of MP Nebanda.
