It's now official, Ruiru-based Butterfly FC are the 2012 Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Thika District League, Aberdare branch champions. The team has been honoured by their sponsors Spinners & Spinners Limited for achieving the feat in their first ever attempt in the area's competitive league.
The team has now been promoted to the Kiambu County League and the players are determined to go the whole length not to disappoint their faithful sponsors this year. Butterfly FC were at the weekend officially declared champions after garnering 49 points in 20 matches where they won 15, drew four and lost one. Some of their selected wins in their quest for glory include beating Mang'u Red Stars 2-1, Coffee Mills 5-0, Igegania 3-1, Nyamathumbi 3-1, Membly 4-0, Super Junior 5-0, Soccer Masters 3-0, Thika Coffee Mills 1-0, Theta FC 6-1, Spring Land 2-0, Cycad FC 2-1 and Murera 4-1.
They drew 1-1 with Mangu, 0-0 against Igegania, 2-2 with Spring Land and 1-1 with Murera in their other fixtures. Only Cycad FC managed to force them with a 2-3 loss on an away first leg fixture. Butterfly FC scored a total of 56 goals in the league. They also won the golden boot award through Norman Werunga who had a total of 14 goals.
