Eritrea: Citizens Assist in Soil and Water Conservation

Hagaz — The inhabitants of Gilass Administrative area said that they would sustain their endeavors regarding soil and water conservation with a view to attaining more harvest. They further disclosed that they are engaged in the renovation of the dam in Harestai village.

Among the inhabitants, Mr. Ibrahim Sa'adin, Mr. Musa Idris and Ms. Bekita Idris explained that active community participation is being witnessed in the process, and indicated that previously implemented similar campaigns have made positive impact.

Mr. Asgedom Temnewo, Administrator of the locality, pointed out that the undertaking involved mobilization of 200 manpower on daily basis, and that over 750 cubic meters of water catchment walls have been built, besides terraces. He also lauded the inhabitants' initiative to engage in such development venture, and disclosed that farmers would shortly start to prepare their farmlands.
