Uganda: Masindi Man Held for Killing Lover's Twins

A 30-year-old man is in police custody in Masindi for allegedly hacking and killing his lover's twin children.

Solomon Mugisa, the community liaison officer Masindi identified the suspect as Ayubu Ategeka, a resident of Kyenjojo district.

He said Ategeka is accused of committing the offence on January 21at Karongo village in Pakanyi sub county Masindi district. Mugisa said the suspect reportedly hacked Joseph Kato and Rosemary Nyagoma all aged three years at about midnight on the fateful night.

Before the incident Ategeka, is accused of having had a quarrel with his lover Jackline Tumusiime at Waiga trading centre. He is said to have accused her of cheating on him.

Mugisa said still angry, Ategeka rushed back to their home in Karongo and hacked to death the twins who were asleep. He later fled to an unknown place.

Mugisa said that Ategeka was arrested on Saturday with the help of police in Kamwenge district and is currently being detained at Masindi Police Station.

He said the suspect will appear in court as soon as their preliminary investigations are over.

Mugisa warned couples against taking the law in their hands when they get misunderstandings adding that such cases should be taken to police or the district probation officer.
