Four of the six persons linked to the death of Butaleja Woman MP Cerinah Nebanda Arioru were yesterday granted a Sh10 million cash bail at the Makindye Chief Magistrate's court.
However, the main suspect, Adam Sulaiman Kalungi ,declined to apply for bail and was returned to Luzira prison until the case resumes on March 5, 2013. The four who walked free are Noor Abu bakar, Abdul Abid, Abid Rashid Bull alias Ikbar and Fatuma Babu alias Tuma. Khan Babu, who had also applied for bail, could not be set free after he failed to secure a second surety.
Last month, Kalungi and six others were charged with manslaughter before Makindye Chief Magistrate Esther Nambayo and remanded to Luzira prison. However, the defence lawyers Macdusman Kabega, Geoffrey Kandeebe and Yunus Kasirivu were not content with the adjournment to March 5. They asked prosecution to proceed with the case immediately.
Nambayo gave prosecution the last adjournment and ordered it to provide all the statements in the case and exhibits by February 20, 2013.
