Gambia: JAC Interim Committee Installed

Crr — The committee of the Janjangbureh Area Council (JAC) was dissolved ahead of the local government elections slated for April 4th 2013, and an interim management committee has been installed.

The nine-member committee is composed of Governor Alhaji Ganyie Touray as the chairperson, Kaunding Tambedou, Saja Sey, Mariama Mboge, Seyfo Ngai Dampha, Alieu Jagne, Mamadi Fatty, Alhaji Omar Mambureh and Marly Jallow.

Speaking at the event, Alhaji Ganyie Touray, the governor and chairperson of the management committee, stated that the interim management committee was constituted and installed to ensure the smooth running of the council.

He said the committee would serve as an oversight and caretaker body until the local government elections are held and the assumption of office by elected ward councillors. He implored on the general public and private institutions to cooperate with the interim committee for their mutual and collective interests.

He applauded President Jammeh through the Ministry of Regional Administration, Lands and Traditional Rulers for appointing him as the chairperson of the Council.

For his part, Babadinding Jobarteh, the chief executive officer of Janjangbureh Area Council, pointed out that the installation of the interim committee, was to ensure effective service delivery. He called on the committee to live up to expectation.

Speaking on behalf of the interim management committee, Kaunding Tambedou commended the Ministry of Regional Administration, Lands and Traditional Rulers for appointing them. He assured that they would execute their function effectively and efficiently.
