Gambia: Ecobank Cashier Charged With Theft

One Ebrima Njie, an employee of Ecobank was on Tuesday arraigned at the Kanifing Magistrates' Court presided over by Magistrate Hilary Abeke. The accused was charged with stealing by clerk and servant, contrary to the Laws of The Gambia.

According to the particulars of offence, the accused on the 12th January, 2013 at Ecobank Jimpex branch, being an employee of the said bank, withdrew a cash amount of D200, 000 from the account of Global Fund Health System and fraudulently diverted the said sum, thereby committed an offence.

He pleaded guilty to the charge and the prosecutor Corporal 3217 Camara applied for an adjournment to present the facts of the case on the next adjourned date.

The presiding magistrate ordered for the accused to be remanded in prison.

The matter is adjourned to the 11th of February 2013.
