Former Kenya Ports Authority boss Abdalla Mwaruwa yesterday said he will not step down in the Mombasa governor race. Mwaruwa, who is vying on the TNA ticket, said he has enough supporters to win the seat.
He is allegedly under pressure from top Jubilee officials to step down for his rival in the alliance Ibrahim 'Babangida' Khamis, who is vying on the Republican Congress Party ticket. Mwaruwa said he expected such "coercion" from politicians.
"I decided to go for this seat because of the people of Mombasa. I believe in my heart that I have a following. No amount of persuasion will make me step down for any person," said Mwaruwa at a press conference at a Mombasa hotel.
