Liberia: Solomon George Must Respect Womanhood

editorial

Montserrado County District #7 Representative Solomon George recently launched an unpleasant verbal attack on Acting Monrovia City Mayor Mary Broh, indicating that he would tie Madam Broh and shit on her if President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf does not remove her as Mayor.

He made the comments at a town hall meeting in Minnesota, the United States of America.

As Representative George spoke to his audience, he was flanked by his teen daughters and Montserrado County District #4 Representative Henry Fahnbulleh. Amidst wide laughter, Representative George said: "We will take Mary Broh; tie her and shit on her." The lawmaker did not stop his verbal onslaught against Madam Broh as he continuously said corruption is making the Monrovia City Mayor to disrespect the Liberia people; by what means he did not explain further.

We Think The insult and profanity against Madam Broh by a sitting Representative of Montserrado County is repugnant, obnoxious and it does not only expose the people of District #7 to disgrace, but also brings the integrity of the House of Representative to public disdain and ridicule, implying that by his action, Representative George is morally loutish and insensitive to the preservation of womanhood.

It Is Disappointing to note that Honorable George who is a representative of Montserrado County, in which Madam Broh also lives, to rain insult on her person, is totally intolerable.

For us, the Representative has insulted the women of Liberia, Africa and the world with such a discourteous lingo which is not even acceptable at the level of the House of Representatives.

We understand that Madam Broh appears aggressive or sometimes overreact when performing her duty. However, that does not give Representative George effrontery to speak slackly without realizing that he's a member of parliament.

Therefore, we call on Representative George to publicly apologize to Madam Mary Broh, and that members of the House of Representatives should consider a suspension or expulsion decision against him because of the public embarrassment and disgrace he has brought to this honorable body.
