Mahindra has arrived in Namibia, and to welcome in the new year, Spes Bona Motor Company are responsible for introducing this exciting model brands to the local market and making inroads into the bakkie market. Spes Bona Mahindra joins an expanding dealership footprint of 59 outlets in SA and Southern Africa, of which Namibia is now a part.

In the wake of Mahindra SA setting the pace with its unrivalled sales growth last year in the passenger and LCV market segments, India's U$15.9 billion Mahindra Group with a global presence in over 100 countries also welcomed the arrival of Mahindra's fresh new visual identity which will be reflected across all its businesses globally.

Sharing his enthusiasm about India's top selling Mahindra product range, Pieter Senekal (Managing Director Spes Motor Company) told Woema that he wanted to enter into the bakkie market, and introduced the well- priced Mahindra Scorpio PikUp bakkie into his multi-franchise stable of new models which comprises namely the French and Italian Fiat, Alfa, Peugeot and Citroen.

"If a brand can grow 107% in a year, then Namibia is in for a good surprise with Mahindra, and our first Scorpio bakkies which landed have already been sold to farmers and local businessmen," he said, adding that he has fully trained Mahindra technicians at the service workshop facility at Hyper Motor City.

The talk of the town is the well-established 2.2 turbo diesel Scorpio PikUp that remained the highest volume seller, and is the face of the Mahindra range. It is value for money that will last the test of time with quality finishes, handsome good looks, durable and safe.

The tough and solidly built Scorpio PikUp is available in three model guises, with single cab, double cab and SUV station wagon also in 2x4 and 4x4 derivatives. The PicUp loader is from N$156 990.

He pointed out that the other big seller and star of the show - is the latest luxury Mahindra XUV500 which also performed well in the Total Economy Run, showing that fuel economy is a major attribute of this diesel-powered seven-seater family vehicle. This stylish SUV is also powered by the same tried and tested 2.2-litre 4-cylinder mHawk diesel engine that pushes out 89 kW and 290 NM @ 1600-2800 rpm, and comes in at a starting price of N$257 900.

The mHawk engine has been tested in some harsh environments, including the Sierra Nevada in the US and in India, which makes it a perfect choice for the tough and arid conditions of Namibia. All models are fitted with dual airbags and ABS as standard.

Senekal concluded by saying that he is expanding his showroom facilities in Independence avenue, and plans for a Mahindra showroom have been drawn up, which will be completed this year. The Mahindra range is also now available at their branch in Swakopmund.

More stock is arriving at the showroom and that interested public are welcome to come in and test drive the new Mahindra.
