Tunisia - the Assassination of Shokri Belaid and Tear Gas Bombs to Who Attended the Funeral

The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information (ANHRI), denounces the assassination of the leftist Shokri Belaid by shooting in front of his house and ANHRI also denounces the continuity of the violent police methodology against who attended the body of "Belaid" and shooting the tear gas bombs.

On the morning of Wednesday on February 6, 2013 "Belaid" the general secretary-general for the unified national democratic trend was killed in front of his house by two bullets in the head.

It is worthy be noted, that "Belaid" (November 26, 1064 - February 6, 2013) is a Tunisian politician and lawyer and former member of the high authority to achieve the objectives of the revolution, political reforms and democratic transition. Moreover, he was the speaker of the national democratic movement that was established after the revolution.

He ran for the elections of the constituent national council on the head of the dignity coalition in joint list with Forefront Arabic Democratic party but they only obtained 0.63% of the votes unless which made them unable to have seats in the council.

Because of the protest that went to the funeral of the body of " Belaid" which took place in the street of Mohamed IV in its way to Habid Bou-Reqaba street as the authorities banned the marches in it but it rescind its decision after that, the policemen fired tear gas bombs on who attended the funeral which led to injuries among the attendance.

ANHRI said that "the assassination of the significant leftist opposition " Belaid" is a stigma against in the rule of Alnnahdah in the country and it is a serious violation against the freedom of exercising politics and silencing the voices of the opposition to make stop from exposing corruption files and discussing the public concern topics in particular as a video spread on the social networks in which a Salfisit was inciting to the murder "Belaid" and number of leftist politicians as they are infidels".

ANHRI added "the persistence of the violent methodology adopted by the policemen against the protesters and any other peaceful gatherings are deemed violation against the right of freedom of expression which was established by the revolution after decades of tyranny during Ben Ali".

ANHRI calls on the immediate investigation to arrest the involved persons and bring them before justice in addition to apply the appropriate penalties on them. In addition to ANHRI calls on investigating the incident of threw the tear gas bombs against the attendance of the funeral which led to several injuries.
