First let me correct the spelling of Fenkil to be Fenql instead.

When Massawa was liberated, Eritreans all of the world celebrated and our hope for complete independence rose dramatically, and we envioned the end of our misery, the end of our fear, the end of our alienation etc.

Yes, as hoped, National independence soon came on the heels of Massawa victory but the rest of our hopes were progressively dashed. Twenty years post independence , we are worse off than ever were before independence.

Many Eritreans including Abai Jebha, Tesfamicale George etc. told us that Isaias Afewerqi was agent of Ethiopia and CIA to torpedo Eritrean quest for complete independence from within the liberation movement. We thought they were kidding. But given what has transpired since independence on us and on our country, they were right and we were wrong.

We had glimpse of the fact that not only the iron-fist way Isaias Afewerqi controlled the EPLFs during the Liberation era but also that he was targetting and extinguishing groups of tegadelti who either distinguished themselves in the organization or joined gedli with impresive educational achievement.

Before he sent them to gallows, he invariably branded them as agents of CIA who came to preempt Eritrean Liberation, the very accusation Abai Jebha and Tesfamicale George laid upon him.

But since the kind of accusation Abai Jebha laid on Isaias Afewerki was a common charge Abai Jebha blamed on the Highlanders in general, and since Tesfamicale Giorge gave his hands to Dergi 1981, we cannot take their claim at its surface value because the motivation could have been generated from self-serving drive.

However just because the credibility of Abai Jebha and Tesfamicale George is in question, does not automatically exonerate Isaias Afewerqi. No. No. The crimes of Isaias Afewerqi, pre and post independence, are too many and too outrageous to go unaccounted for. But the most important issue that needs absolute clarification is: His Motive Behind His Crime.

The 1998 war with woyane, and the humane tragedy and material destruction that ensued was unnecessary, to say the least. Yes, woyane had activated skirmishes at the border but for Isaias Afewerqi to launch all out invasion on Ethiopia on that account was utterly wrong because in accordance with the UN Charter, if two member countries cannot solve their bilateral problem, they are obligated to approach the UNSC to help them solve their problem. Isaias Afewerki lied to the Eritrean people that woyane was the invader but when the Claim Commission invalidated his assertion in accordance with International Law, he readily acquiesced to the verdict that he was indeed the invader.

Some can argue that, given his background, Isaias Afewerqi might not have broken the International Law willfully. But even if it was the case, the fact that he did not consult appropriate professionals before he embarked the people upon dangerous undertaking shows his reckless nature unfit to hold the mantle of leadership.

However, his subsequent behaviour amply revealed whether or not he did not willfully broke the International Law. Instead of mitigating the problem, he submerged the people into further choas.

In 2001, after the War was over, he escalated the tragedy to a higher level and this was where his real motive, not that of the war, but the Primal Motive, the Original, revealed her ugly face.

He willfully dethroned the Eritrean people of their Sovereinty and made them his Subjects by suspending the Constitution indefinitely and disbanding the Baito for ever. He wrecked EPLF totally by arresting and incacerating the Senior Officials, freezing others to the status of Zombies, reducing the people to become his pandhandlers, unleashing widespread humane trafficking as a means cleansing the country of its productive and defense forces, the youngsters; in a vicious drive to deny the Eritrean people from ever rising again to reclaim their Sovereignty.

The wickedness of Isaias Afewerqi is boundless.......
