Eritrea: Operation Fenkil Symbol of People's Steadfastness

Massawa — The residents of the port city of Massawa said that Operation Fenkil is a symbol of the Eritrean people's steadfastness against occupying forces and a gateway to the country's independence. They further indicated that commemoration of the historic event should always depict such phenomena.

Among the residents, Ms. Dirit Gelaidos, Ms. Meaza Gebreamlak, Mr. Ibrahim Shiedeli and Mr. Tsegai Abai pointed out that development accomplishments registered in the port city over the past 22 years attest to the reinforcement of the national development drive and the government's commitment to improve the livelihood of citizens. Moreover, they expressed readiness to enhance participation in State affairs.

Reminiscences of the Operation which once and forever forced out the Ethiopian occupation forces from Massawa remain vivid in the minds of the residents, reports elucidated.
