Tanzania: Bishops Thomas Laizer, Amadeus Msarikie Are Dead

Moshi — Bishop Thomas lazier of the Evangelical Lutheran Church's Arusha Northern Central Diocese is no more. He died yesterday after succumbing to a long illness.

He was admitted to the Selian Referral Hospital here where he was receiving medical treatment for the past one month. A source said the late Bishop was suffering from kidney problems.

In another development, a retired Bishop of Moshi Diocese, Right Reverend Amadeus Msarikie died at Nairobi National Hospital on Wednesday at the age of 82 , after a brief illness.

Reliable sources have it that the late Bishop was in charge of the diocese for 23 years from 1986 to 2009 when he retired and was succeeded by the incumbent Bishop, Right Reverend Isaac Amani.

Before he was consecrated Bishop of Moshi Diocese he taught at St James Seminary located at KIlema Chini in Moshi Rural District and later was appointed Rector of the Seminary. Burial ceremony of the late bishop will be announced as soon as his assistant returned home from Nairobi today.
