Sudan: Presence of Militias 'Increases' After North Darfur Tribal Clashes

Wadi Miro — One person was killed and others were wounded at Wadi Miro, in Krenik locality, West Darfur, after an assault by pro-government militias on Thursday, a relative of the fatal victim told Radio Dabanga.

Sources are claiming the presence of "criminal militias has increased" in the area after the tribal clashes in Jebel 'Amer, North Darfur, last month.

The victim's relative said gunmen riding horses and camels firstly opened fire on a group of people and stole 30 cattle from them. A woman was reportedly injured during the assault and the group decided to chase the pro-government militia to retaliate.

However, the source recounted, the militants ambushed the citizens instead, and a man was killed and several others were injured.

Very few people and their livestock reportedly live in Wadi Miro. Locals call this type of semi-deserted areas "Furqaan".

Witnesses appealed to authorities to "put an end to the activities of criminal government militias".
