ATHLETES from Nyanza North have started preparations for the national cross country trials planned for February 16 at Uhuru Gardens.
The 20 athletes, who were selected during the provincial trials at Kisumu Polytechnic will conduct non-residential training prior to the big show in Nairobi. Athletics Kenya (AK) Nyanza North public relations 0fficer, Jared Gilo, said the athletes will train on their own ahead of trials.
"We can't afford residential training but we are monitoring their training on a daily basis," he said.
Gilo, who will also be the team manager, exuded confidence that their athletes will perform well.
Team: The selected team include; Junior women; Lilian Adhiambo, Naom Chepkorir, Shada Cherotich, Angela Bitok, Miriam Tanui, and Iddah Akoth; Junior men: Wilfred Nyangaresi, Lazarus Motanya, Joseph Mosoiko, Michael Odhiambo and Stephen Ochieng; Senior women: Divina Chepkoech, Janet Isaac and Ruth Ketere; Senior men: Eliud Tarus, Simion Chirchir, Joseph Onsarigo, Duke Morang'a, Justus Makori and Justine Mogire. Sospeter Odundo was named the coach and Joyce Awandu the chaperon.
