Tanzania: TRA Exceeds Targeted Tax Collection

Mwanza — TANZANIA Revenue Authority in Mwanza Region has exceeded its targeted revenue collection for 2012/13 by 25 per cent.

Mwanza Assistant Regional Manager who is also responsible for Management and Compliance Monitoring, Mr Mussa Kifunta, told the 'Daily News' recently that the authority succeeded in increasing tax collection from 31.9bn/- to 39.9bn/- in the past six months.

"There is an indication that we have done very well for the first six months as there is an addition of 8bn/- as compared to the intended target," said Mr Kifunta. He said that last year, the collection target for the region was 64bn/-.

However, the region collected a total of 63.3 bn/-, which is equivalent to 98.9 per cent of the intended target. Mr Kifunta said that from July 2012 to December 2012 and January 2013 to June 2013 the regional target was 83.9bn/- whereby the direct collection is estimated at 48.03bn/- while the indirect collection stands at 35.9bn/-.
