The Institute of Advanced Leadership has recognised Kennedy Mutenyo, the Coca Cola promotions manager, for his exemplary role in the development of youth sports in Uganda, writes Charles Sebugwawo.
Mutenyo was among the seven people honoured in different fields at a dinner held at Imperial Royale hotel Kampala on Wednesday. For more than 20 years, Mutenyo has been at the helm of the popular Copa Coca-Cola tournament, a secondary schools football competition as well as the Coca-Cola Under-14 football tournament for primary schools.
Mutenyo has also served in several sports-related fields from being a Fufa delegate to Fufa Zone 9 vice president and is currently a board member of National Council of Sports (NCS). He also sits on the marketing committee of Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) and one-time headed the marketing committee for the East African Secondary Schools games.
It's not the first time Mutenyo is honoured for his efforts in sport; back in 2005, world cricket body (ICC) honoured him for spearheading the success of Coca-Cola cricket week.
