Uganda: Jinja Wants Bursary Organisations Probed

Jinja district councillors have petitioned the police to investigate non- government organizations offering scholarships and bursaries to needy students in the area.

Budondo sub-county councillor Ayub Wabiika told journalists at Busoga Square on Monday that they were concerned that unsuspecting parents were being ripped off.

"We have also embarked on sensitizing the masses to be vigilant ... such organizations should present papers before operating," he added.

The district education secretary Florence Asiyo added that the council has now tasked the education department to increase its funds to the district education committee to do its monitory and supervisory role.
