Angola: Over 300 Kilometres of Road Demined in Kuando Kubango

Menongue — At least 344 kilometres of roads were demined in 2012 by the third brigade of the Angolan Army, informed Wednesday to ANGOP the head of military engineering sector of the Southern Military Region's 5th Division Headquarters, lieutenant-colonel, Gorge António.

The Lieutenant-colonel stressed that 150 kilometres of Mavinga-Mawe road were cleared, while between Rito and Mawe localities, an extension of 196 kilometres, 37 of those were also cleared.

The source informed also that in the route that connects the municipality of Mavinga to Rivungo locality were demined approximately 130 kilometres, representing 60 per cent of the total, while the road between the localities of Mavengue, Kalai and Longa, in Cuito Cuanavale Municipality, were cleared 27 kilometres.

In Kuando Kubango five operators organise demining works, taking into account the socio-economic development projects underway in the province, requiring safe movement of people and goods on roads.
