Ebrima Danso, an employee of Ocean Bay Hotel was on Wednesday convicted by the Kanifing Magistrates' Court presided over by Principal Magistrate Sheriff Tabally. He was charged with two counts of theft, both contrary to the Laws of The Gambia.
The particulars of offence on count one stated that the accused in the year 2012 at Ocean Bay Hotel Bakau, being an employee of the said Hotel as a security and by virtue of his employment, stole four metal chairs valued at D8, 750.
On count two, the particulars stated that the accused person stole from Room 104 of the said hotel, a mobile phone marked Samsung Galaxy valued at D7, 920, being the property of one Mr. G. Hughes.
The accused pleaded guilty on both counts and the prosecutor, Sergeant 1781 Kinteh narrated the facts of the case. The accused in his plea of mitigation, begged the court to temper justice with mercy as he is married and has three children.
The presiding magistrate sentenced him to pay a fine of D10, 000 on count one and D5, 000 on count two in default to serve six months and another three months in jail respectively.
