Somalia: Mohamud Meets Egyptian and Iraqi Leaders in Cairo

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud met with Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi and Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki in Cairo on Thursday (February 7th), Radio Mogadishu reported.

Mohamud is in Egypt to attend the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation summit. Morsi and al-Maliki separately discussed ways to strengthen diplomatic ties between their countries and Somalia.

Mohamud also briefed the two leaders on the security condition in Somalia and what role they can play in rebuilding his country.

After the meeting, Morsi called on Arab countries to contribute to the reconstruction of Somalia. "With the end of the transitional phase in Somalia and the election of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, we must support the efforts of reconstruction in this brotherly country," Morsi posted on Twitter.

Mohamud is expected to meet with other leaders at the summit and also with the Somali community in Cairo, UN-funded Radio Bar-Kulan reported.
