Kenya: Police Raid Illegal Ruiru Brewery

Police have arrested a woman operating an illegal brewery at Juja in Kiambu and seized counterfeit alcoholic drinks. Police found seals from the bureau of standards and Kenya Breweries and Wine Agencies labels from the woman's house at Kenyatta Road.

Other labels included those of Viceroy, Kenya Cane and Kenya King. Ruiru divisional police commander David Kirui said the officers were tipped off on the woman's activities.

He said the woman operates a licensed bar in Juja and has been supplying drinks to unsuspecting distributors and agents.

Kirui who was accompanied by the Ruiru divisional crime buster Joseph Muriithi said police are looking for the woman's accomplices adding that she will be taken to court.

He appealed to members of the public to be on the lookout for illicit brews sold in licenced establishments and to give information that could lead to the arrest of the culprits.
