Nigeria: Police Confirm Two Killed in Nassarawa Attack

Two persons were killed on Thursday in an attack perpetrated by youth in Kwandera area of Nassarawa State.

Six other persons sustained terrible injuries and are currently receiving treatment.

The police in the state said that irate youth took to the street in Kwandera area, which is about 10 kilometres away from Lafia, the capital of Nassarawa.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Michael Ada, who confirmed the deaths said a quick intervention by policemen curtailed what could have been a major crisis in the city.

He said the case is still under investigation, adding that the police is "trying to unravel the circumstance" that led to the deadly attack.

On the cause of the violence, Mr. Ada said the police suspects that the "communal disturbances in some parts of the state" might have led to angry youth causing havoc.

While the police said the situation is under control, rumour is still rife in the city of a looming attack. Nerves are frayed and the mood is pensive.

Mr. Ada said policemen have been deployed to avert possible attacks.
