Communities are in need of humanitarian intervention following the recent military intervention in Gao.

A suicide bomber blew himself up near a group of Malian soldiers in Gao, AFP reported on Friday (February 8th). An officer was injured in the attack, which came one day after the Movement for Tawhid and Jihad in West Africa (MUJAO) issued a statement saying it had adopted guerrilla tactics.

On Thursday, al-Qaeda splinter group said it would attack military convoys and place landmines.
