Kano — Two gunmen were arrested Friday night after policemen foiled an attack by insurgents on a police station at Minjibir local government in Kano
The attackers were apprehended as they were attempting to flee the area, security sources said.
Several gunmen on motorcycles and inside motorised tricycles launched an attack on the police station located about 20 kilometres from Kano city around 8:30pm on Friday night.
The attack, which came hours after groups of gunmen had killed 10 polio workers in the state was, however, foiled by policemen guarding the station.
One of the attackers was killed in a gun duel, while two others were later apprehended on their way out of the area, Sunday Trust learnt.
Eyewitnesses said the assailants had damaged windscreen of a police vehicle that was parked at the station.
Kano State police command confirmed the arrest, adding that its men were combing the area to effect the arrest of the remaining insurgents.
