Kenya: Stage Set for First Amani Peace Race Starting in Kericho

A number of renowned athletes are expected to take part in the inaugural Amani Peace-Kenya 2013 road race tomorrow.

The 138 kilometer race organised and sponsored by the Community Education services Canada will start in Kericho town and end at Muliro gardens in Kakamega town.

The event will be flagged off by three time Vienna Marathon champion Paul Kimaiyo Kimungul at Kipsigis County council offices, according to Community Education Services local chapter patron Malik Khaemba.

"Each runner will cover a portion of the total distance equivalent to three marathons. The event makes a clear statement that peaceful elections are essential for human life and freedom," said Khaemba.

He said that the race will start at 6 am and end at 2pm. Some of the big names expected to feature in the race include Thomas Kosgei, Philip Kiptoo, Patris Kiptoo, Micah Chumo, Meryline Cherono, Marion Chepkonga, Jemimah Masau, Joan Rotich, Viola Chepchirchir, Sharon Ayebai and Elijah Chreuiyot among others.
