Tanzania: Local Artists for Kigali Culture Festival

Tanzania expects to send about 100 participants to the East African Community Arts and Culture festival to be held in Kigali Rwanda from February 11 to 18.

According to the Tanzania Association of Cultural Tourism Organizers (TACTO), who are local co-ordinators for the exhibition, participants will get the opportunity to showcase their cultural activities which had not been given enough attention.

Speaking to reporters this week, the Chairman of TACTO, Mr. Joas Kahembe said Tanzania being a member State of EAC deserves to participate in the exhibition in order to showcase its culture of her diverse tribes.

He said exhibitors would include carvers, artists, painters, circus players and artists. More than Shs. 170 million is required to accomplish the trip of which only sh 10 million had already been raised by last week.

He explained that cultural tourism started in Tanzania in the 1990s with an objective of interaction of tourists and villagers. The latter have benefited from selling souvenirs to tourists.
