Somalia: 19 Convicted in Somali Military Court

A military court in Beledweyne convicted 19 men of various crimes on Friday (February 8th), UN-funded Radio Bar-Kulan reported.

Four were sentenced to death for murder, including an al-Shabaab militant who confessed to killing Hiran elder Sheikh Mohamud Sheikh Hussein last November, one day after he was appointed leader of the elders' council.

The 19 included government soldiers and al-Shabaab militants, nine of whom were sentenced to jail terms between six months and 25 years, court chairman Liban Ali Yarow announced. The court postponed sentencing for six others, as their victims are still receiving treatment.
