Egypt: Interior Ministry - Port Said Events Planned

Amidst heated debates and remarkable rifts among the members of the Shura Council on the performance of the Ministry of Interior, Major General Abdel Fattah Othman, the Assistant Interior Minister for Public Security dismissed on Sunday 10/2/2012 all charges leveled against the police of killing peaceful demonstrators.

Major General Othman said that the police men intervene only in case of violations that threaten public facilities and break the law.

Othman said that the events in Port Said were planned and that he has pictures and videos of heavy firearms inside the houses surrounding the prison in Port Said, adding that the ministry seized 28 weapons.
