Egypt: Military Spokesman - Armed Forces Have Nothing to Do With Demonstrations

Armed Forces Spokesman Colonel Ahmed Mohammed Ali confirmed on 10/2/2013 that the Armed Forces have nothing to do with today's demonstrations, which were called for by some political powers.

He said that the presence of the Armed Forces comes in the context of securing vital facilities and the deployment of symbolic units in the entrances and exits of Cairo and other provinces comes within the security plan in place.

He added that the presence of the Armed Forces in the streets of Port Said and Suez is meant to protect public facilities and assist the police to maintain security after the recent events.
