Tanzania: Govt Advised Over Informal Sector Taxes

Dar es Salaam — Efforts by the government to collect taxes from the informal sector will be doomed if it doesn't apply an informal system in the informal sector.

The advice was given by an expert in the tax regime, Mr. Viann Komba, Senior Manager, Tax with Ernst & Young Tanzania who spoke exclusively to East African Business Week in Dar es Salam last week.Tanzania introduced the Tax Modernization Program in 1995 with the objective to enhance revenue collection by improving tax administration and reduce taxation costs both in terms of compliance and administration.
