LAND

Amhara Region Prepares Industrial Sites

Ten industrial sites have been prepared in seven selected towns inAmharaRegionalState. Close to 1,711ha of land designated in the towns as an industrial site have been developed, said Ahmed Abetwe, deputy chief of the state. In addition, 1,000ha of land have been designated to establish additional industrial sites in three towns. Investors with 126 billion Br combined capital have launched 6,980 projects in the state, according to Ahmed.

AVIATION

Aviation Academy Undertaking Expansion Project for $50m

The Ethiopian Aviation Academy said it is undertaking a massive expansion project at a cost of 50 million dollars in a bid to boost its enrollment capacity, due to the ever-increasing demand for its basic and recurrent training programs from domestic and international customers. Ethiopian Airlines Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Tewolde Gebremariam said the expansion work includes construction of buildings and will equip the Academy with modern training aircraft, computer based training simulators, and other ultra-modern facilities. The academy is in the process of enhancing and diversifying its training services and increasing its enrolment capacity to fulfill the demands from the Ethiopian Aviation group, from Africa and elsewhere.

Close to 41m Br Dev't Projects Operational

Various development projects constructed in Dire Enchini Wereda, West Shoa Zone of Oromia State using over 41 million Birr have gone operational. Wereda Chief, Delesa Dima told ENA that the projects are in the areas of health, education, agriculture and safe water provision. The chief said over 60 safe water projects, three health stations, a technical and vocational training institute and a bridge have already gone operational. Delesa said the projects benefit more than 85,000 people.

Crops Cover Close to 12.3m Hectares of Land

The area of land covered with crops exceeds 1.52pc that of the same period last year. Presenting the six month performance report to the parliament, Agriculture Minister Tefera Derbew said the Ministry plans to produce 22.5 million tonnes of main food crops during the reported period. He attributes the increase to the utilisation of improved production techniques, best seeds and the introduction of a new organisational structure.

Meskel Square-Africa AvenueRoad Opens to Traffic in May

The4.3Km Meskel SquaretoBole International Airport Roadwill open to traffic in May 2013, according to the Addis Abeba City Roads Authority (AACRA). Authority General Manager, Fekade Haile (Eng) on the occasion said utmost efforts are underway to finalise the construction of the road before celebrations for the 50th Golden Jubilee of the African Union. Electric power, water and telephone services, which were interrupted due to construction of the road, will begin operations soon, said Fekade. The City has allocated a 1.3 billion Br budget for the construction of 109 road projects and related activities said Sisay Workneh, authority communication work process head.

Four Kilometre Asphalt Road Goes Operational

Close to four kilometres of asphalt road has been constructed and become operational in Arba Minch town of the Southern Regional State at a cost of 27 million Br. Construction of pedestrian walkways, flood canals and bridges were also constructed in the town, according to Dawit Hailemariam, municipality manager. The Gamogofa Zone and town administration allocated the budget for the road.

CONSTRUCTION

Hospital Under Construction

A hospital is under construction in Horu Gurdu, Welega Zone of Oromia Regional State at a cost of 28 million Br. The hospital gives service to 50,000 inhabitants, according to Aklilu Fantahun, health office head. The construction of the hospital is being undertaken on four hectares of land.

ADMINISTRATION

Guji Zone Collects 70.6m Br Revenue

Guji Zone of Oromia Regional state collected 70.6 million Br in revenue during the last six months. The amount exceeds the three million Birr target and has surpassed it by 20.6 million Br compared to the revenue collected same period last year, according to Dadi Kura, office head. The office is striving to collect 125 million Br revenue in the current fiscal year, according to Dadi.
