Nigeria's daily electricity generation capacity is currently fluctuating between 4,400 and 4,500 megawatts, MW, the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, said on Monday.

Though the highest peak generation of 4, 517 MW was recorded on December 23, 2012, the capacity dropped to about 4,286 MW late last month.

But TCN's Assistant General Manager, Public Affairs, Dave Ifabiyi, said there were improvements last weekend, which saw the new capacity at an average of 4,500MW, attributing the development to government's commitment to the privatisation of the sector.

"Power generation, which earlier stood at 4,286MW, improved at the weekend," Mr. Ifabiyi said. "As at today (Monday), our power generation is hovering around 4,400 to 4, 500 MW."

According to Mr. Ifabiyi, TCN expects the current generation level to increase significantly when all the power projects currently being executed under the National Integrated Power Programme, NIPP, are fully integrated into the national grid. (NAN)
