Zimbabwe: I'm Not a Pole Dancer, Says Bev

Dancer Beverly "Bev" Sibanda says it was wrong for people to view her as a pole dancer as she performs all types of dances. "I am not a pole dancer. In fact, I do not know if it's allowed in Zimbabwe. I am a professional dancer registered with the regulatory authority in the country," she said.

Speaking after her performance alongside Alick Macheso, the versatile dancer said she can perform any dance.

"I am an all-rounder. I can dance to any music, even rhumba," she said.

Pole dancing is a form of performing art, a combination of dance and gymnastics. It involves dancing and performing acrobatic tricks with a vertical pole and is often found in erotic clubs.

"I don't think it's pornographic because I won't be in the nude. While some people think it's pornographic, I believe it is entertainment and no other dancer can do that and this is why people flock to my shows.

"My dances come naturally and I always do the unimaginable because that is what it takes to be a star," she said.

Born in 1991, Bev has taken the entertainment scene by storm. She is probably the most sought-after dancer in the country.
