Zimbabwe: The School of the Supernatural

The topic of miracles or signs and wonders is a staple conversation these days in Zimbabwe. Let me add my voice to this discussion drawing inspiration from the illumination of scriptures that attempt to shed light on this topic in my own way as the Lord through Prophet Makandiwa has been ministering to me.

Beloved, do you know that miracles just do not happen? I know this might trigger some tongues wagging at me. But allow me to explain what I have experienced through the mentoring of my spiritual father.

For supernatural things to happen there is a need to build a strong foundation in Jesus Christ as one's personal Saviour and Lord.

It is like a builder building a house on sand and when strong winds and rain come, it will be swept away. It requires righteousness and holiness for one to be able to be used by God to work out miracles.

There is a need to build a strong foundation for the supernatural ministry of Jesus Christ to happen. What Jesus Christ wants from you is what He wants from everybody for the supernatural to take place effectively.

There are three main expectations for the supernatural to occur and they are:

Fruit of repentance - Jesus expects you to bring forth the fruit of repentance. Repent means to change your mind genuinely for Jesus Christ. Let me draw your attention to Acts 2:37-39 that sheds more light on the issue of repentance. When one changes one's mind it means one has made an about face.

This means one changes one's mind and acts on them. In fact, repentance is not complete until one does what the word of God says. One is to bring to the Lord Jesus Christ the fruit of repentance.

Practice righteousness everyday - This means one has to move on the highway of holiness every day. Just picture a highway and you will see a paved way without potholes or obstacles for traffic.

A Christian is set apart to exploit for the Lord. One needs to believe the word of God to activate one's faith.

Faith in the book of Hebrew means Amen! meaning so be it. When one has faith in the word of God, what one is telling the Lord is that you can have your way in me. Faith produces a surrendered life.

Practice intimacy with Jesus - To become a professional in basketball or any sport, one has to master the foundational rules of that game. In the school of the supernatural, the bigger the foundation, the more one is edified in Jesus Christ. As stated earlier about a builder who builds a house on a firm foundation, the house will stand no matter the vagaries of weather.

I have observed that with genuine repentance, faith and righteousness, this enables one to do the will of the Father. Reading 1 John 2:3-6, I came to realise that the supernatural happens when you pass the test of knowing the author of the supernatural, who is Jesus Christ.

"Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He who says, "I know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar and the truth is not in him. But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked."

I have come to appreciate that for the supernatural to happen; one needs a prescription of authority. Keeping the commandments of God is a prescription of authority. The centurion in Matthew 8:9 is a testimony to a man under authority. If one wants the supernatural authority, one has to be obedient to the word of God.

Jesus is the patterned Son for everybody to follow.

My experience in United Family International Church has informed me that to understand the miraculous, one has to receive Holy Ghost tutelage of one's Spirit Man. In John 6:45, we learn that "It is written in the prophets, 'And they shall all be taught by God.'"

Beloved, do you know that the gifts of the Spirit are God-given endowments? They are divine packages that have been designed to promote you and help you become all that Jesus has called you to become.

As churches and as a nation its not that time to criticise the supernatural or to fight against what the Lord is doing. Let's pray to God and seek understanding with regards to those areas that we seem not to understand.

I hear people, even degreed persons, commenting by attacking the supernatural, thus being insane!

When we are talking about the supernatural, we don't need the natural professors and doctors to speak their minds as to how God should be operating in this world, I personally feel it is the responsibility of those that are spiritually elevated and mature in the Lord to do so, that is, if they are still found. Why are we impoverishing ourselves by not taking advantage of what the Lord had given us freely? Genesis 47:15, the whole Egypt sought refuge in Joseph. Joseph was not a politician, not an economist neither was he a doctor nor a farmer.

Joseph had the wisdom of God, he had a gift from God! Nations survived the drought just because of their acceptance of the God-given gift and surrendered to it and they survived the droughts. Just because you are born again, it does not mean you are spiritual.

The Apostle Paul told the supposedly mature Corinthian church that he had to teach them as if they were infants in Christ. In other words, the Corinthian Christians should have been mature, but because of neglect or indifference, they still needed the elementary teachings of Christ Jesus.

Therefore, in order for Jesus to be big in you, you have to develop your spirit man. So you want to be in the miraculous? Do you desire to live in the realms of signs and wonders? That's great if you do but there is a price to pay. That is exactly what God has called you to do, but its not an automatic experience.

Just because one is born of the Spirit of God, it does not mean one is exempt in growing in God. Growing in God is a spiritual process. Its demanding work. One has to nurture and exercise one's spirit. If your spirit man is not developed, one is going to live under the domination of the natural world.

If you desire to see the miracles of God and the power of God manifested in your life, then you will have to train your spirit man to flow in that experience.

Here is a prayer I recommend you pray for your spirit man to develop in things of the supernatural.

"I need to train my spirit man! I need to invest in, develop and edify the spirit part of me. As I dedicate myself to this exercise, I will communicate and walk in harmony and fellowship with the Holy Ghost.

"These signs shall follow them that believe." Mark 16: 17a. Zimbabwe, let us embrace the gifts God has given us. Instead of provoking God by attacking his servants, let us humble ourselves and receive grace from Him who is able to keep us from falling!
